Summary of Job:

The Grooming Manager is responsible for all management functions, including departmental oversight, working within the budget, safety, training and staffing for the Grooming department and assist with the Summer Trails department. This involves planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and performance management of employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction, leadership and expertise to the Stevens Pass Grooming operation
  • Hire, train and schedule staff. This will include working overnight shifts when needed.
  • Organize and delegate daily workload to the lead groomers to ensure direction is given to all grooming staff.
  • Supervises performance management and evaluations of the grooming operation.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all mandated company and department policies and procedures including safety guidelines.
  • Constant communication with all necessary departments.
  • Attend Resort Leadership meetings for a better understanding of the bigger picture in order to prioritize needs.
  • Create and oversee departmental budgets while tracking performance to expectations.
  • Operate heavy equipment including snowcats, backhoes and loaders as required.
  • General knowledge of snow making.


Job Qualifications:

  • High School education or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a groomer or winch cat operator
  • Previous mechanical or heavy equipment experience
  • Ability to learn and understand Stevens Pass trail network, snow characteristics and grooming equipment
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Minimum 5 years in supervising staff in some type of capacity
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Advanced skier/snowboarder
  • Previous experience budgeting at departmental level
