Job Summary:

The Assistant Manager Ski Patrol will assist in all aspects of overseeing the Park City Ski Patrol. This is a managerial position tasked with performing at a global level, capable of prioritizing and strategizing all facets of the job with the intent of aligning the team internally, between bases, and with the core competencies and values of the Company. Assist in preparing and managing both operational and capital budgets. Ensures patrollers are trained and prepared to respond to all emergent situations at the ski resort. This position must be committed to providing the highest standard of guest service. The job requires strong leadership qualities, the ability to problem solve, creativity, and the ability to build a positive, winning culture while building a high performing team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the day to day operations of Park City Ski Patrol, including all facets of guest service, guest safety, medical care, snow safety, and mountain maintenance and lift evacuation.
  • Manages first and foremost with the Vail Leadership Competencies and Values, using the behavioral anchors as a guidance on management style
  • Possesses strong team management skills and has the capacity to develop the team leadership skills of others including patrol team leads, specialists and line staff

  • Conducts administrative duties such as goal setting, performance management, performance appraisals, overseeing and ensuring the quality assurance of training, scheduling, work comp, payroll, budget management and anything else necessary for the successful operation of the Park City Ski Patrol.
  • Functions appropriately in the absence of the Ski Patrol Manager and/or Senior Manager.
  • Works closely with other on mountain departments and managers and third party agencies.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of mountain operations, including but not limited to: snowmaking, slope maintenance, risk management, terrain parks, lift maintenance, race crew, lift operations, mountain safety, mountain dining, special events, and transportation.
  • Demonstrates effective supervisory skills with regards to employee engagement, positive reinforcement, disciplinary and corrective action, and documented mid and end of season reviews.
  • Holds employees accountable to the Employee Manual, Patrol Manual and current Bargaining Agreement
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and strong guest service skills

Job Requirements:

  • 3 years supervisory experience
  • 5 years ski patrol experience
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel and be able to navigate Vail Resorts platforms
  • Must be able to handle conflict with diplomacy and tact
  • Must be successful with influencing a positive culture, change, empowering the workforce and driving employee engagement
  • Must have and keep OEC certification current
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends and holidays as required

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to ski at a professional skier level in all snow and weather conditions, daily, for two hours minimum and up to eight hours at a time;
  • Be able to lift (and ski with) a minimum of 50 lbs daily, if the opportunity presents itself.
  • Must have frequent ability to lift, stand, walk, sit, and maneuver in all climate conditions on mountain, in high elevation territories;
  • Must have full dexterity of hands and fingers to feel and maneuver in cold temperatures;
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl in all weather conditions at a high elevation;
  • Ability to communicate with our guests verbally - listening and talking in a calm manner;
  • Must have good vision (corrected or not corrected) – with ability to see up-close, in the distance, peripheral, depth perception and have the ability to adjust focus.
