Essential Job Functions

 

Overview

  • Bring the Patagonia story to life; create a retail environment that is innovative, unique, inspired, guest friendly, and reflective of the local community.
  • Develop a strong understanding of business trends and opportunities to utilize labor budgets effectively. 
  • Work closely with the Store Manager to prepare a labor schedule to ensure that the store goals will be met through appropriate planning and structured staffing.
  • Create “seamless guest service” by making every effort to go above and beyond for our guests.
  • Support the Regional Visual Merchandiser in implementing the merchandising directives set forth by the company.

 

Communication

  • Working with the store manager, have at least one educational and/or informative clinic per month to ensure both product and system expertise that will improve store operations and allow for better customer service.
  • Work with the Store Manager to build a strong New Hire on-boarding process and help oversee new hire training to maintain consistency within our team.
  • Ensure the company policy and procedures are communicated in a timely manner and adhered to accordingly. 
  • Focus heavily on building a strong relationship with all channels of our business. 

 

Merchandising

  • Maintain high merchandising values that reflect the Patagonia image by being creative, educational, inviting, and expressive.
  • Work with Store Manager to ensure the right level of training is taking place to ensure all levels of the staff upholds visual standards.
  • Prepare for upcoming store Seasonal Visual Flips and working with the Store Manager to understand labor needs for the execution of every flip.
  • Reactive Merchandising: weekly and monthly, remerchandise product to maximize sales and react to weather, trends, and inventory levels; utilize weekly merchandising reports to highlight top 20 products.  This includes point of purchase displays and materials push tables, toppers, and other select focus areas throughout the store.
  • Mannequins: Dress and style the mannequins in the store according to market schedules.
  • Monthly Focus:  remove and install window displays and push displays based on the timeline approved by the Visual Design Group at Patagonia.
  • Sale Events:  collaborate with the Regional Visual Merchandiser and Store Manager to efficiently execute sale set up and maintain visual standards during off price events.
  • Work with the Regional Visual Merchandiser, Store Manager, and the Environmental Point Person to develop and install environmental displays and customer communication to meet our visual standards.
  • Provide timely and complete follow-through on all areas of merchandising directed to you by the Regional Visual Merchandiser. Utilize the Visual Merchandising Checklist. Submit focus photos within 3 days of installation to your Regional Visual Merchandiser and Store Manager.
  • Communicate all merchandising information, questions, and needs to the Regional Visual Merchandiser, Store Manager, and Buyer.  Work with them to determine specific needs, such as fixtures, image photos and point of sale materials.
  • Communicate to store staff on a daily basis regarding visual standards. Act as the store “liaison” for merchandising questions when the Regional Visual Merchandiser is out of the store. 
  • Develop a strong relationship with Regional Visual Merchandisers in order to uphold a seamless message across all channels.

 

Inventory

  • Help ensure staff is upholding an acceptable inventory shrinkage amount measured as a percentage of sales.
  • Assist in executing physical inventories by working closely with the Store Manager on an affective schedule and overseeing the expectations of the company.
  • Follow the instructions of our company specific to inventory control: paperwork flow, timeliness of reporting receipt of goods, inventory transfers and other related inventory matters.
  • Work with Store Manager to ensure damaged and defective goods are processed in a timely accurate manner. Build a strong relationship with our partners within the distribution centers.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time, necessary to provide sales floor coverage related to guest service and loss prevention.
  • Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat, kneel, and carry product, necessary for guest service, inventory restock, and store merchandising.
  • Must be able to safely and regularly lift and carry 55 pounds & be comfortable climbing ladders.
  • Typical work week is approximately 40 hours - available to work minimum of one weekend day, one opening shift and one closing shift throughout the week.
  • Assist with In-Store Seasonal Flips requiring the ability to work outside normal business hours to complete the task at hand.

 

Activism

  • Create stores that are centers for the community and can aggressively educate our guests on environmental, social, and political issues.
  • Encourage all staff to participate in planning events in the store.
  • Educate self and staff on global and local issues. Get actively involved.
  • Ensure we “walk our talk”. Operate stores that are environmentally responsible by recycling, conserving water, electricity and carpooling or cycling.

 

Schedule

  • Store is open 7 days per week.  Number of scheduled hours per week varies.
  • The number of dedicated merchandising hours (8 hours, 16 hours or 32 hours per week) is determined by the store’s sales volume.  The balance of weekly hours is dedicated to sales associate responsibilities.    
  • Total number of scheduled work hours per week is determined by position status and needs of the business.
  • Merchandising days will be scheduled with the collaboration of the Regional Visual Merchandiser, Store Manager, and may vary per store.
  • When not scheduled for Visual Store Flips, all other hours within weekly schedule will be scheduled as an Assistant Store Manager and required to lead the store in all daily functions.

 

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years previous retail sales experience with at least 1 year attentively utilizing the following leadership behaviors;
    • Managing/Measuring workload, Decision Making, Assessing Talent, Training Others, and Conflict Management
  • Minimum 1 year previous retail store visual merchandising experience requiring execution of merchandising plans and demonstrated ability to design and construct creative displays.
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective retail product presentation.
  • Ability to delegate and communicate tasks. 
  • Extreme attention to detail, conscientious worker.
  • Working knowledge of computers with experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Excellent guest service skills, in person, on the phone and in writing.
  • Comfortable with team-based work structure yet also having the ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to give clear directions and set expectations for the staff specifically with the Patagonia visual standards.
  • Demonstrated flexibility on the job; ability to adapt quickly and react positively to business needs and changes in strategies.
