The Northstar Groomer Operator is responsible for creating welcoming first and last impressions by performing to specific quality standards. This individual will operate over-the-snow vehicles, for the purpose of constructing, grooming, and maintaining ski and ride trails.  Successful candidates will assist the shift supervisor in, safely and efficiently completing nightly objectives, as well as work as a team with other groomer operators to provide the highest quality ride product. 


This position works 5 nights a week (swing or grave) and may include weekends and holidays.


Entry level position responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Ensure a clear understanding of the requested tasks and ask for clarification when needed.
  • Comprehend and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations, safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor.
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written directions.
  • Contribute to team effort by assuming responsibility for the cleanliness of the equipment, the resort and safety of all guests and employees.
  • Accepting diverse assignments; maintaining a positive and friendly attitude and demeanor in all internal and external interactions.
  • Meet service and safety objectives and department goals as set forth by immediate supervisor.
  • Flexibility with working hours and schedule. 


    Intermediate level position responsibilities include all Entry responsibilities plus the addition of the following:

  • Ability to safely and efficiently execute special projects as assigned by shift supervisor.


    Advanced level position responsibilities include all Entry and Intermediate responsibilities plus the addition of the following:

  • Ability to operate all grooming equipment and components.
  • Act as a role model regarding performance and quality production for lesser experienced crew members.


    Other position considerations for all skill levels may include:

  • Physical demands - performing the duties of this job may include walking or stepping on uneven, often icy surfaces and working in elevation, on steep slopes.
  • Work environment - demands while performing the duties of this job may include regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions, of which may include hiking in deep snow.  The noise level in the work place is usually loud.





  • Minimum 1 year experience operating snow grooming equipment or 3 years heavy equipment experience (excavator, backhoe, dozer, etc).



  • Minimum 3 years’ experience operating snow grooming equipment.



  • Minimum 5 years’ experience operating snow grooming equipment.


    All skill levels:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Prior to offer, must complete driving records verification.


Preferred skills:


All skill levels:

  • The ability to ski or ride advanced terrain.



  • The ability to operate a snow cat winching system with 3 or more years’ experience.
