Applications are still being accepted in anticipation of opening our resorts for the summer season, contingent on our ability to resume operations.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Respond, stabilize and transport guest injuries on property, on trails, at base activities and by staffing Base Patrol during resort operating hours and special events as assigned.
  • Interface with EMS and Sheriff’s Office on patient transfers and off property assistance as governed by local and county EMS protocols.
  • Respond to uninjured guests who require transportation and assist in locating lost/separated parties.
  • Perform strong public relations services by answering any nature of guest questions related to both on and off mountain issues.  Resolve guest concerns related to mountain operations.
  • Coordinates with lift operations and lift maintenance for weather closures and evacuation of foot passengers off the mountain.
  • Works well with all mountain operation departments including Summer Operations, Lift Maintenance, Trail Crew, Events, and Marketing.
  • Monitor trails as necessary or available to look for hazards and determine what maintenance is required.
  • Perform light trail maintenance using hand tools (shovel, pick, McCloud, rock bar, sledge hammer) and small power tools (drill, circular saw, Sawzall) and chainsaw as trained and required.
  • Recognizes guest situations where Vail Resorts, Inc has a higher level of responsibility and performs detailed accident investigations as trained and necessary.
  • Performs lift evacuations using aerial and conventional techniques.  Has ability to participate in lift evacuation with thorough understanding of summer evacuation plan.


Job Requirements:

  • EMT with patient care experience
  • Knowledge of terrain and operations as accessed by foot, bicycle and vehicle.
  • Ability to access terrain via mountain bike preferred with appropriate certification.
    • Note: use of terrain park features is not within the summer patrol job description, and patrollers will be required to use ride-arounds and alternate routes not including man-made features.
  • Winter patrol professional lift evacuation training including:
    • Ground based evac of detachable and fixed grip chairs
    • Ascending to chairs for problem solving
    • Strong rope rescue skills
  • Valid US driver’s license
  • Flexible schedule including weekends and evenings
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to twist, turn, push, and pull.
  • Possess strength and agility to evacuate injured parties from challenging and remote areas.

The budgeted range starts at $15-19.  Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
