The Mountain Dispatcher at Crested Butte coordinates communications between multiple departments and records and relays information via radio and phone. Some of the dispatchers responsibilities will include but are not limited to: emergency response situations, communications during lift opening and closing to ensure a smooth and on-time opening/closing of the resort to the public, keep key functions within the resort apprised of progress and anticipated delays. This person will ensure timely customer service by facilitating reports of lift stoppages to affected parties, keeping track of down time and alerting responders of time elapsed.



  • Provide superior customer service while interacting with our internal and external customers
  • Work directly with Crested Butte Ski Patrol, Lift Operations and Lift Maintenance
  • Answer a wide variety of standard/routine questions; respond to emergencies; dispatch appropriate personnel; report problems related to building, lift or electrical maintenance, grooming, skiing services, police, ambulance, and helicopter requests.
  • Periodically direct guests to the appropriate area or department while providing superior customer service.
  • Clearly relay valuable information via radio and telephone to all appropriate and necessary staff members.
  • Assist with snow reporting as well as website updates.
  • Keep accurate and up to date daily, weekly and seasonal Dispatch logs and other records related to assigned duties.
  • Become personally familiar with the inner-workings of Mountain Operations to have a clear picture of what is happening while listening to radio transmissions.
  • Expect to be the communication hub for all updates such as lift open/closures, road open/closures, and guest service announcements that may need to be continually communicated.
  • Adhere to Vail Resorts Guidelines including Grooming and Dress Code Policy



  • High school education or equivalent, some college preferred
  • 1+ year basic Crested Butte mountain operations experience preferred. Basic knowledge of the mountain required. Willingness to gain a greater knowledge of Crested Butte’s ski trails, lifts and mountain operations.
  • Previous clerical experience or dispatch experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Drive and Sheets etc.
  • Strong English communication skills including verbal & written
  • Ability to come in early on a scheduled or unscheduled shift on heavy snow storm mornings to assist with “Snow Safety Dispatch” and high traffic communication needs.
  • Availability of weekends and holidays required
  • Positive, solutions oriented leadership preferred

The budgeted range starts at 15-18.  Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
