DEPARTMENT PURPOSE

The mission of the Marketing Analytics team is to leverage Vail Resort’s proprietary guest data to generate actionable insights that unlock value for the business.  The team is responsible for informing insight-driven strategic decision making across the entire enterprise.

 

POSITION PURPOSE

The Strategic Analytics Senior Analyst will be responsible for supporting the creation of a new analytics team dedicated to Vail Resorts ancillary lines of business, starting with Ski and Ride School (a ~$200m line of business).  The role will initially be responsible for developing a multi-year strategic roadmap and will evolve into providing strategic analytical support for the Ski & Ride School business.  This is a unique opportunity to have immediate impact on a very critical part of the business for Vail Resorts.  This high visibility role requires a strong analytic mindset as well as finely tuned relationship development skills.  The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial spirit coupled with a persistent curiosity.  The ability to analyze data and provide strategic insights with actionable recommendations in a concise and persuasive manner is a key attribute of the position.  Strong presentation skills and an aptitude for condensing large amounts of data into a meaningful story are important, and the role requires the individual to balance a service-driven approach to support with an honest and independent assessment of marketing effectiveness.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  •  [Strategy Development] Work with leadership to define a multi-year path forward for Ski and Ride School.  This includes identifying key areas of opportunity across the business, as well as creating processes and milestones to ensure a successful launch of the new Upsell Analytics team.
  •  [Analysis & Reporting] Manage the creation, development, and distribution of standardized reporting related to ski school performance.  Generate in-depth analysis to formulate insights based on identified customer motivators, behavioral drivers, and marketing programs impacting customer decision making.
  •  [Project coordination] Partner with various teams and functions to design Test & Learn opportunities, while defining appropriate benchmarks and measures of success.
  •  [Presentation] Communicate conclusions, implications, and recommendations of analyses in a clear, concise fashion to stakeholders to drive more effective marketing decisions.
  •  [Prioritization] Prioritize projects to balance the support of broad initiatives, recurrent reporting and proactive analysis with the direct requests of the marketing team.  Evaluate the potential impact of analysis and effectively manage timeline communication and expectations.
  •  [Standardization] Ensure processes, tools and documentation are in place to support efficient and consistent analysis.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Very strong quantitative and analytic skills with demonstrated success in analytical or financial roles – minimum 2-3 years previous experience in consulting, marketing analytics, direct marketing, investment banking financial analysis or other similar field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Business, Technology, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or Mathematics) preferred.
  • Previous work experience within an entrepreneurial environment including creation, ownership, and follow through of a multi-year project.
  • Proven experience in driving actionable recommendations and decisions based upon data-driven insights.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills are essential. Must be able handle multiple projects simultaneously and coordinate across multiple functions within an organization.
  • Demonstrated success working with large data sets, developing tools for streamlined analysis and creating output that succinctly summarize complex concepts.
  • Experience with analytic tools/software such as Tableau, Alteryx, MS Excel and similar programs, experience with data processing (SAS/SQL) a plus.
  • Highly proficient/advanced skills within MS Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Demonstrated strength in written and verbal communication, adjusting message to audience.  Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Preferred: Previous experience with B2C customer segmentation, test/control setup and performance analysis/reporting.
