The Vail Resorts Finance organization is focused on driving value and building leaders.  To support achievement of this mission, we are seeking a highly accomplished and results-oriented Principal Analyst for the Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team.  This high-impact, highly visible position will be involved in all aspects of Finance for the Company at the enterprise-level and reports to the Sr. Director-Corporate Financial Planning.  The position partners with Business Segment and Functional teams and has a high degree of accountability and ownership in supporting the Finance leadership team, the Company’s Executive Committee (EC), and the Board of Directors (BOD). In this capacity, specific duties include:


Job Responsibilities: 


  • Coordinate with Business Segments/Functions in development of: (i) bi-weekly Business Reviews covering results, pacing, and leading indicators with the EC, (ii) monthly reporting and analysis of financial results, forecast updates, and risks and opportunities (R&Os) for presentation to the Finance leadership team and CFO, and (iii) quarterly BOD presentations
  • Perform complex and varied analyses to enable sound decision-making around near-term and long-term business R&Os, identifying key business insights through data analysis and delivering synthesized and impactful communications (verbally and in writing) that enable better business decisions and improved enterprise value
  • Act as an agile and trusted analyst/advisor of material business trends impacting enterprise performance to the Finance Leadership team; build strong operating processes/tools/models and relationships to enable quick and proactive response times in a collaborative manner that contributes to the team’s high performance culture
  • Communicate expectations to important stakeholders around key assumptions and timelines for critical enterprise-wide processes to ensure alignment and clarity of specific objectives supporting CFO and EC decision-making; own process design and communications for the annual budgeting process (operating and capital) and monthly forecasting process
  • Partner with Business Segments/Functions to drive process improvement and timely and accurate reporting and analytics


Qualities and capabilities that define the ideal candidate include:


  • A multi-faceted Analyst who is a leader, partner, and “doer”; the successful Analyst will be comfortable operating in financial systems and spreadsheets, and equally comfortable leveraging his or her capabilities to work independently to conduct analysis, assemble an informed point-of-view, and communicate recommendations/conclusions with clarity and conviction
  • Proven experience and a track record of results achievement with progressive responsibility in FP&A, along with an aptitude and desire to embrace and implement process and technology/tools leading to meaningful productivity enhancements
  • Executive presence, orientation to business partnership, and ability to handle difficult situations with a high-degree of diplomacy and composure; assist the business in achieving their strategic priorities through data-driven analytics without losing sight of the Finance organization’s mission to Drive Value
  • Ability to zoom in and out of data; he or she is technically proficient and willing to get into the details while maintaining command of the big picture; able to develop and adjust messages/storylines appropriately in response to the audience
  • Strong organization and project management skills; ability to juggle multiple concurrent high-priority projects while meeting tight deadlines, being a team player, and seeking continuous improvement of self and job-specific responsibilities
  • Connects well with others, demonstrating a high degree of leadership, candor and respect while acting with integrity and transparency 




  • 5+ years experience (or equivalent with MBA or other graduate degree) in Finance and/or Economics
  • Demonstrated aptitude and success in financial modeling, insight generation/analysis and executive communications   
  • Experience coordinating aspects of FP&A processes, including annual budget, capital budget, long-term strategic planning, and enterprise communications


Additionally the ideal candidate should have:


  • Outstanding academic credentials; MBA, CFA, or equivalent preferred, and a record of accomplishment and excellence
  • Excellent individual initiative with demonstrated curiosity, objective-oriented drive and strong project management skills
  • Ability to multi-task, manage numerous simultaneous priorities, and demonstrate outstanding problem solving skills
  • Highly collaborative team approach to work with an ability to adapt and excel in a fast-paced environment
  • High energy with the ability to work both independently and with superior business partnering skills
  • Ability to balance a strong attention to detail with seeing the "big picture"
  • Expertise in quantitative analysis and presentation with a high degree of proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and industry standard financial systems (i.e., reporting and planning tools like PeopleSoft, BOARD, Anaplan, etc.)
