SUMMARY OF JOB: 

Experienced Payroll Manager to lead a Payroll team in a growing organization.  The individual needs to be able to lead a team comprised of both entry-level and more technical roles ensuring a focus on process and controls.  The individual will lead the bi-weekly and off-cycle payroll processes, all payroll taxes and the corresponding reporting requirements, including producing W-2s and T4s. The individual will need to be able to partner with various internal departments to ensure the appropriate focus and resourcing is available to support the team. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overall responsibility for the timely and accurate preparation of approximately 40,000 employees (at season height), multi-FEIN payroll totaling $600 million dollars annually.
  • Overall responsibility for tax deposits/returns
  • Hire, develop and manage (including performance reviews) payroll employees.
  • Coordinate W-2 and T4 processing for multiple FEIN’s
  • Provide oversight on payroll accounting, including reconciliations.
  • Draw on extensive knowledge of laws and regulations impacting the payroll function to ensure compliance with the operation.
  • Champion the department’s process improvement efforts to drive efficiency and accuracy with a focus on ensuring strong controls are in place.
  • Keep current on new legislation impacting payroll.  Summarize impact, develop recommendations and review impacts with key internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate audit activities, including SOX compliance, with the internal and external audit teams.
  • Serve as the corporation’s subject matter expert on all payroll issues - - partnering with Legal/Compensation/ HR/Benefits as needed.
  • Partner with IT to ensure new functionality, system updates, year-end acquisitions, etc. are handled in the efficient, structured environment with thorough testing and quality assurance to minimize the impact of the production environment.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or suitable experience
  • 7+ years of in-depth payroll experience, payroll taxes and accounting experience preferred
  • Multi-national experience preferred
  • Supervisory Experience:               2+ years
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
  • Ability to speak English  is necessary
  • Project management skills
  • Problem solver (strong analytical skills) ---not just a problem identifier.  Enjoys the challenge of digging into issues to help identify root cause and make recommendations to resolve.
  • Handle pressure well, adjusts to changing priorities and acts on opportunities
  • Committed to excellence and quality.  Understands attention to detail and accuracy are critical to success of department.
  • Familiar with automated time capture.
  • Preferred Skills: Peoplesoft Financials and HRMS experience
