Summary of Job: Ensures the safe and efficient operation of all Afton Alps ski lifts. Assists passengers in the safe
loading and unloading of Afton Alps 18 ski lifts, tow ropes, and conveyors. Provides excellent customer service by
interacting with all lift passengers. Maintains both the load and unload ramps by shoveling and grooming the
ramps/low clearance areas. Trains and supervises lift operations staff.
Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Train and supervise lift operators.
  • Oversee all daily operations of all lifts
  • Assist all passengers in the safe loading and unloading of the ski lift.
  • Provide instruction and superior customer service by interacting with and talking to all lift passengers.
  • Stall chairs to ensure the comfort and safety of passengers loading the lift.
  • Slow or stop the lift as necessary to ensure passenger safety.
  • Maintain load and unload ramps and areas around all lift stations by shoveling and/or raking snow.
  • Ensure all chairs are clear of snow or ice before loading passengers.
  • Implement emergency procedures, including contacting Ski Patrol (as necessary).
  • Assist lift operators in the morning pre-operational setup of all lifts, including snow removal, ramp
  • maintenance, setting up the lift line maze.
  • Provide breaks to lift operators.
  • Ensure all shut-down procedures are followed to ensure passengers are not left on lift and that lift is ready to
  • operate the following morning.
  • Assist in the maintenance of lift load and unload ramps throughout the day.
  • Print, file, and ensure proper completion of daily operations logs.
  • Assist Lift Maintenance staff to ensure reliable operation of lifts.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate professionally to staff and guests. Respond and engage with
  • customer suggestions, complaints and recognition.
  • Ensure cleanliness of lift buildings and other work areas.
  • Adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations of Vail Resorts and Afton Alps.
  • Create and maintain a productive and safe work environment, including the completion of all company
  • mandated safety-related training and assessments.
  • Assist other departments, as needed.
  • Adhere to and role model the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma – Required.
  • Work Experience: 1-2 years of experience in lift operations at Afton Alps (Preferred) or another ski resort.
  • Good work ethic, dependability and excellent customer service & communication skills.
  • Supervisory Experience: Prior supervisory experience – Preferred.
  • Licenses/Accreditations: Valid driver’s license to drive company vehicles (snowmobiles, trucks, etc.).
  • Schedule Requirements: 35-48 hours per week.
  • Preferred Skills: Possess excellent employee and public relations skills and enjoy working with the public.
  • Indoor/Outdoor: Enjoy working outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Equipment Used: Shovels, rakes, brooms and other hand-held snow grooming equipment.
  • Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, hear, see,
  • repetitive motions, carry, as needed for most of your work day.
  • Familiarity with lift operations and the ski industry in general.
  • Ability to safely operate all of Afton Alps ski lifts.
  • Flexible schedule required during peak times throughout the year. Must be willing to work evenings, holidays
  • and weekends – Required.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to ensure: teamwork, high level guest contact, and commitment to guest
  • service.
  • Must demonstrate ability to receive and give direction and act upon it.
  • Ability to communicate fluently with coworkers and guests in English.

Physical Requirements: This position works primarily outside, and requires prolonged periods of standing and
walking on slippery and/or uneven snow or icy surfaces. Must remain alert and attentive at all times. Must lift up to
50 pounds, and stall chairs up to 220 lbs. Shoveling large volumes of snow and/or ice is required as is driving snow
mobiles and other company vehicles.
